Firm founder
Lawyer Umerr Arthur Al-Khatib was born in 1970 in Erlangen, Germany.
He was educated in Germany and the USA, studied law at the
University of Cologne (Germany), standard Arabic at the
American
University of Cairo and postgraduate business administration at the University of Hagen, Germany.
After his traineeship as junior barrister at the Higher Court of
Cologne in 2001 and admission to the bar of the Regional District Court
of Cologne, he began his career with the TecDax company QSC, Cologne as
legal consultant on business law.
In 2002, Mr. Al-Khatib was appointed to the German Federal Foreign
Office (Berlin) within the framework of the special programme "Dialogue
with the Islamic World".
He worked there until summer of 2004 as legal consultant on
international economic law and dealt with law cases relating to the
European Patent Office and the World Intellectual Property Organisation
(WIPO) in Geneva.
Within the framework of the United Nations Compensation Commission,
Geneva, Mr. Al-Khatib advocated the interests of German organizations
on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office.
The judicial procedures comprised claims in excess of 1 billion US
Dollars. Additionally the conduct of lawsuits on behalf of the Federal
Republic of Germany within the District Court of Berlin was his
essential responsibility.
In January 2005 Mr.Al-Khatib founded the law firm Al-Khatib as an
independent legal and economic consultant with special focus on
business in the Arab World.
